Loan Originator

Basic Functions:

The Loan Originator develops leads primarily from external sources such as Realtors and builders.  Interviews loan applicants, explains loan options, obtains necessary documentation and completes loan application.  Maintains the relationship with these sources to foster ongoing referral business.  Must be available for evening and weekend appointments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Identifies potential business primarily from referral sources (i.e. Realtors, builders, etc.) and promotes FSB’s mortgage products and department.

  1. Serves existing customers mortgage needs and follows up on referrals from branch staff, telephone inquiries and walk-in business.

  1. Develops and maintains relationship with external sources through sales calls and other marketing efforts.

  1. Schedules and conducts mortgage and home equity interviews at times convenient for the loan customer.  Enters data on computer.

  1. Evaluates preliminary documentation to determine if the loan application meets underwriting guidelines.

  1. Serves as primary contact with consumers, Realtors, builders, attorneys, and other parties related to the transaction as needed.  Assisted by Loan Processing Staff as needed.

  1. Works with Loan Processing and Underwriting staff to build a complete mortgage file.  Follows throughout the process to ensure timely commitment and closing.

  1. Actively cross sells other Bank products and services.

  1. Responsible for meeting established annual loan production goals.

  1. Represents the Bank at various professional functions (i.e., Realtor picnics, etc.) and always serves as an ambassador for Fairport Savings Bank’s mortgage department.

Knowledge and Technical Abilities:

Thorough understanding of the credit application process.  Familiarity with underwriting criteria and guidelines.   Ability to develop and implement marketing tools.

Education Required:

Associate Degree or equivalent business required.

Experience Required:

Loan origination experience with established referral sources highly desired.

Skills/Aptitude:

1.

Must be sales and goal oriented.

2.

Excellent communication skills; ability to interact well with people from diverse backgrounds.

3.

Ability to represent the Bank in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality of borrower’s finances.

4.

Attention to detail needed to review income, asset verification and loan parameters

5.

Flexibility and problem solving skills required.

6.

Must be computer literate, including use of laptop.
